Angostura is proud to sponsor the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) in its second season, joining Republic Bank, El Dorado Rum, and Visa as new sponsors. This initiative reflects Angostura’s commitment to promoting women’s sports and fostering gender equality in the Caribbean.
Empowering Women Athletes
As Executive Manager of Marketing at Angostura, I emphasised our dedication to supporting women’s sports. “Historically, women’s sports have received less attention and investment than men’s sports. This partnership allows us to level the playing field. Supporting Massy Women’s CPL is a key opportunity for us,” I stated.
Collaborative Support
Massy Stores, Massy Auto, Shell Lubricants, and Virgin Atlantic continue their support, ensuring the tournament’s success. Jamie Stewart, CPL commercial director, expressed gratitude to existing partners who also support the men’s CPL, acknowledging their role in promoting women’s sport in the Caribbean.
Commitment to Gender Equality
Republic Bank’s General Manager of Marketing and Communications, Karen Tom Yew, highlighted their ongoing commitment to gender equality. The Women’s CPL aligns with their initiatives, such as the Entrepreneurs Business Builder (EBB) programme, which supports women entrepreneurs across the Caribbean.
Inspiring Future Generations
Komal Samaroo, Chairman of Demerara Distillers Ltd, praised the WCPL for providing a platform for women to showcase their talent and inspire future generations. He noted the life-changing contracts many players received from last year’s event, emphasising the tournament’s role in breaking down barriers for women in sports.
Building Professional Skills
Waldemar Cordero, Marketing Leader for Visa in the Caribbean, referenced a Wakefield Research survey indicating that 89% of women believe sports develop vital professional skills. Visa’s support for the WCPL underscores their commitment to creating more equitable and inclusive opportunities for women.
Looking Forward
As we support the Massy Women’s CPL, Angostura is excited to contribute to the growth and recognition of women’s cricket in the Caribbean. We look forward to an exciting tournament and the continued empowerment of women athletes across the region.
