On World Tourism Day, Angostura partnered with Tourism Trinidad to celebrate the theme of “Tourism and Green Investment,” reinforcing our commitment to environmental sustainability and preservation. This partnership reflects Angostura’s dedication to fostering a greener future for Trinidad and Tobago’s tourism industry.
A Symbolic Donation for a Greener Future
In line with our sustainability goals, Angostura donated some of our iconic rum barrels to two key tourism stakeholders: Marcia Guerrero, president of the Lopinot Countrystyle Community Tourism, and Sherwyn Romain, owner of Trini Tours and Transport Company based in Paramin. These barrels, rather than being retired, will be repurposed to support local ecotourism initiatives, transforming them into planters for vegetables such as cherry tomatoes, pumpkin, and microgreens. This not only promotes healthy eating but also supports the availability of more local produce.
Collaborating for a Sustainable Tourism Industry
During the event at the International Waterfront Centre in Port-of-Spain, Carla Cupid, CEO of Tourism Trinidad, highlighted the significance of this collaboration in building a foundation for a more sustainable tourism industry. She emphasized the importance of stakeholders working together to remain competitive and contribute to the global movement towards environmentally friendly and immersive experiences.
Angostura’s Commitment to Ecotourism
As the executive manager of marketing at Angostura, I shared our vision for promoting ecotourism and environmental consciousness through innovative means. By repurposing our barrels, we are contributing to the growth of ecotourism in Trinidad and Tobago, ensuring our resources are used sustainably to benefit the community and the environment.
A Community-Driven Approach
The use of these barrels in the Lopinot and Paramin communities is a testament to our belief in community-driven initiatives. Marcia Guerrero plans to utilize the barrels for growing local produce, which aligns with our goal of supporting healthy eating and sustainable agriculture. Sherwyn Romain echoed this sentiment, noting how the green initiative perfectly complements Paramin’s reputation as the “seasoning capital” of Trinidad and Tobago, known for its lush landscape and rich agricultural heritage.
Looking Ahead
This collaboration between Angostura and Tourism Trinidad marks a significant step towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly tourism industry. By investing in green initiatives and fostering partnerships, we are contributing to a brighter, more sustainable future for Trinidad and Tobago’s tourism sector.
