At the House of Angostura, we are thrilled to join the global celebration of International Rum Day on August 16th. This year, our festivities will span across Trinidad & Tobago, featuring a variety of events and promotions throughout August. We invite everyone to come together and honour our islands’ own ‘liquid gold’ with specials and promotions at bars and retail outlets.
Honouring Our Cultural Heritage
As the Executive Manager of Marketing at Angostura, I am proud to share the significance of rum in our culture. When people think of rum, they envision sunshine, good times, and the Caribbean. For us, it represents so much more. Rum is deeply woven into the fabric of our cultural heritage and is integral to our celebrations, embodying the very spirit of our islands.
What Makes Angostura’s Rum Unique
Angostura’s rum is distinguished by a unique fusion of cultural influences, our bespoke proprietary yeast, and the meticulous care that goes into our fermentation, blending, and ageing processes. Each bottle captures decades of expertise and is proudly made by our people, enjoyed during every key cultural celebration.
A Rich History of Excellence
The House of Angostura, set to celebrate its 200-year anniversary in 2024, has a storied history. Founded by Dr Johann Siegert, Angostura set the gold standard with its iconic aromatic bitters. However, rum has been a major part of our history since we began rum production in 1948.
The launch of Old Oak Rum marked a significant milestone, as it quickly became a local favourite and led to a historic moment when our revenues from rum surpassed those from bitters. Since then, our rum operations have continued to thrive, introducing innovative lines to both local and international markets.
Our most recent addition, AngosturaⓇ Tamboo Spiced Rum, inspired by the first-ever rum produced by Angostura, Siegert’s Bouquet Rum, embodies the vibrant spirit of Trinidad & Tobago’s Carnival. The blend of Caribbean spices and golden rum captures the essence of the islands’ lively culture.
A Diverse and Award-Winning Portfolio
The House of Angostura is renowned for its award-winning rum range, reflecting the cultural diversity of Trinidad & Tobago. Our rum style merges British, Latin, and Portuguese influences, creating a local signature that stands out. Our five-column stills enable us to produce a wide variety of rums, from lighter styles to heavier ones, offering a diverse portfolio from the one remaining distillery in Trinidad & Tobago.
Join Us in Celebration
As we celebrate International Rum Day, we encourage everyone to raise a glass or two with AngosturaⓇ and enjoy our rich heritage and exceptional rum. Please remember to drink responsibly as we honour the spirit of our islands together.
